IN THE CIRCUIT COURT OF FLORIDA, SEVENTH JUDICIAL CIRCUIT IN AND FOR ST. JOHNS COUNTY

Re: APPOINTMENT OF ADMINISTRATIVE JUDGE

Ref: G-2022-014-SJ

            WHEREAS, Rule 2.215(b)(5), Florida Rules of General Practice and Judicial Administration, authorizes chief judges to designate administrative judges to assist him/her with administrative matters;

            NOW THEREFORE, I, JAMES R. CLAYTON, Chief Judge of the Seventh Judicial Circuit of Florida, hereby appoint Judge Howard M. Maltz to serve as Administrative Judge of St. Johns County effective July 2, 2018.  Judge Maltz is so appointed to assist the Chief Judge of the Seventh Judicial Circuit with the following matters:

  1. Signing reassignment orders upon the recusal (disqualification) of judges in St. Johns County;
  1. Requiring the attendance of prosecutors, defense counsel, clerks, bailiffs, and other officers of the court in St. Johns County;
  1. Reviewing the status of inmates in the St. Johns County jail;
  1. Supervising the selection of venires for petit and grand juries in St. Johns County;
  1. Authorizing the replacement of grand jurors unable to complete their terms;
  1. Developing a schedule for judicial coverage of First Appearance hearings and consideration of emergency injunctions for protection and other emergency matters that may arise on weekends, holidays, and after-hours on weekdays;
  1. Ensuring that court facilities and court proceedings in St. Johns County are open and available to the public during normal operating hours; and
  1. Advising the chief judge on matters related to the general operation of the Seventh Judicial Circuit Court in St. Johns County.
