Flagler, Putnam, St. Johns, and Volusia County courts will be closed Friday, April 3, in observance of Good Friday. Courts (courthouses) throughout the Seventh Circuit will resume normal operations on Monday, April 6.
WHEREAS, the availability of background information concerning individuals scheduled to appear in Court is necessary for the prompt and efficient administration of justice in Volusia County, and
WHEREAS, the Office of the State Courts Administrator has developed the Judicial Inquiry System (JIS) to enable users to obtain background information concerning individuals scheduled to appear in Court, and
WHEREAS, having this information available will aid in the expeditious processing of certain cases;
NOW THEREFORE, I, TERENCE R. PERKINS, Chief Judge of the Seventh Judicial Circuit of Florida, hereby order that the Judicial Inquiry System (JIS) be made available to prosecution and defense counsel for purposes of obtaining background information concerning individuals scheduled to appear at first appearance hearings in Volusia County.
IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that Volusia County Pretrial Services personnel are relieved of the responsibility of providing background information (including criminal histories) concerning individuals scheduled to appear at first appearance hearings in Volusia County to prosecution and defense counsel.
IT IS FURTHER ORDERED, that until further notice, Volusia County Pretrial Services personnel shall provide the First Appearance Judge with background information concerning individuals scheduled to appear at first appearance hearings in Volusia County utilizing the Judicial Inquiry System (JIS).
