Circuit Judge James R. Clayton was elected in 2002. Before becoming a judge, he was a part-time assistant state attorney and was in private practice for more than 20 years. He earned both his undergraduate and juris doctor degrees from Stetson University. He currently hears criminal felony cases at the Volusia County Courthouse in DeLand.
